Our first day in Pedasi was occupied by a beach cleanup on playa del Toro. We met the people of MiAmbiante ("Ministerio del Ambiante" : the Ministry of the Environment) for the first time. They drove us to the area of the beach clean up in their big 4x4-pick-up, driving on the beach, which is quite astonishing, considering that this is the people who's job is to show the example... anyway.
We finally arrived and saw the amount of waste ... Plastic bottles, shoes, toothbrushs, razors, plastic bags, etc. We started collecting them right away !
But there was also glass : bottles and bulbs !
A dozen of garbage bags after, we were proud of the work we had accomplished. But on our way back, we found a buried plastic bottle, so we started to dig and we unearthed a dozen of them... We figured out that the wastes we collected were only the tip of the iceberg. Let's remain positives ! The beach is cleaned up twice a year, which is ... non sufficient at all ! Damn !
